Why an Apprenticeship?

Having worked in the care sector for eight years, I’ve always been passionate about developing my skills and progressing in my career. My journey started as a care worker in 2017, and within months, I was given the opportunity to support in the care manager’s office. This experience led to my promotion to Assistant Care Manager, where I remained for five years, completing my Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Level 4 with a distinction.

When the opportunity to step up as a Housing and Care Manager arose, I jumped at the chance—and I knew I wanted to continue learning. The Leader in Adult Care – Residential Manager apprenticeship was the perfect next step to enhance my skills, boost my confidence, and develop my leadership abilities.

This course has given me invaluable knowledge, particularly in managing quality standards, leadership approaches, and resolving conflicts effectively. The structured nature of the apprenticeship, combining theory, practical observations, and interactive online sessions, has made learning engaging and applicable to my day-to-day role.

Benefitting My Business

One of the biggest advantages of completing my apprenticeship while working is the real-world application of the knowledge I’ve gained. Everything I’ve learned has directly impacted my role, from understanding different management styles to handling workplace challenges with greater confidence.

The apprenticeship has:

  • Strengthened my decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Given me a deeper understanding of leadership in care services.
  • Improved my ability to resolve conflicts and support my team.

Through this programme, I have developed the drive to embrace change and continuously improve. I’ve been able to implement my learnings instantly, and this has positively influenced my management style and approach. The experience has not only supported my professional growth but also benefited my team and the residents we care for.

The Connect2Care Difference

One of the key factors in my success has been the outstanding support from my tutor. The guidance and motivation I’ve received have been instrumental in my confidence and progress. From detailed discussions on my coursework to practical observations and one-on-one support, my tutor has made sure I stay focused and continue to develop.

I have particularly enjoyed the interactive elements of the apprenticeship, such as online sessions on key topics like equality and diversity, which have broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of the sector. The structure of the programme ensures that apprentices not only gain knowledge but also apply it in meaningful ways.

Working with Connect2Care and HIT Training has been a fantastic experience. Their structured approach, supportive tutors, and relevant learning materials have helped me develop the skills I need to succeed in my current role and beyond.

When I reflect on my journey—from domiciliary and palliative care to managing a care team—I feel incredibly proud of how far I’ve come.

My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is simple:

“Don’t give up! Sometimes things get hard, but always believe in yourself and push through. The end result will be worth it.”
