About this course
This specialised apprenticeship programme will equip apprentices with the skills and knowledge to create delicious, nutritious meals that support the health, wellbeing, and dietary needs of older adults.
What to expect…
The Production Chef apprenticeship for those working in care settings equips apprentices with the skills to prepare nutritious, balanced meals tailored to the dietary needs of individuals in care homes, hospitals, and other health-focused environments. Apprentices will learn to follow standardised recipes, manage food allergies and intolerances, and ensure the highest food safety and hygiene standards. They will gain expertise in portion control, nutritional requirements for vulnerable groups, and how to cater to special diets, including dysphagia. This hands-on experience prepares apprentices for career progression in care catering, ensuring they can provide high-quality meals that support the health and well-being of those in their care.
Functional Skills
If an apprentice is aged 16-18 and has not previously achieved the required level of English and maths, they will need to complete Functional Skills as part of their apprenticeship programme.
While Functional Skills are no longer mandatory for adult apprentices (19+), literacy and numeracy skills remain essential for success. For those without prior English and Maths qualifications, we recommend level 1 in maths and level 1 in English to support career growth and workplace efficiency.
Our tailored support ensures these skills are seamlessly integrated into the apprenticeship journey, helping every apprentice develop these vital skills.
Added Value
Every apprentice will receive:
12-month Affiliate Membership with the Institute of Hospitality (IoH).
Access to L1 Mental Health First Aid Awareness course.
