Why Apprenticeships?
At Little Adventures Nursery and across the Family Adventures Group, apprenticeships play an important part in how we develop people within both our early years and leisure sites. With 375 employees working across a wide range of roles, apprenticeships help us support new staff as well as upskill existing team members so they can progress or build a stronger understanding of their role.
We currently have around 60 members of staff who are either completing or have already completed an apprenticeship. The programmes we offer to our employees span from Level 2 through to Level 7. As a group, we draw on a broad range of apprenticeships covering finance, HR, business support, chefs, hospitality, and leadership and management. We also work with each individual to identify the apprenticeship that best suits their role and qualification level, ensuring the learning is relevant and meaningful.
“I recently completed the Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner apprenticeship myself with Connect2EarlyYears and achieved a distinction. Going through the process myself showed me how structured, work-based learning supports professional growth and strengthens the skills needed in day-to-day practice.”
For us, apprenticeships provide a clear and purposeful route for staff to grow in their personal and professional lives. When recruiting, offering this level of development creates a positive response and helps attract people who are keen to progress.”
Benefitting the Business
Apprenticeships benefit our business by giving staff real, on-the-job experience and life-long skills that they can use in their current roles and any roles they may take on in the future. This practical learning supports stronger performance and builds confidence across the team.
Progression is often very achievable. With the right mentor and the right apprenticeship in place, staff can take the skills they’ve developed during their programme and apply them in new positions within the organisation. This contributes to a more skilled and capable workforce.
We’ve also seen a positive impact on staff retention. When people feel valued and know that the organisation is investing in their development, it helps create a sense of loyalty. This has contributed to an overall increase in staff choosing to stay with us.
Apprenticeships have helped us close skills gaps too. By giving staff the knowledge they need to carry out their roles effectively, we’re building stronger teams with the right foundations. Upskilling staff not only improves retention, it also strengthens the quality and consistency of the work being delivered across our settings.
