health and social care intermediate apprenticeship

This 12-month apprenticeship consists of:

  • Health and Social Care Diploma Level 2
  • Health and Social Care Technical Certificate
  • Functional Skills Maths (Level 1)
  • Functional Skills English (Level 1)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

This is the health and social care sector’s professional qualification for care assistants, HCAs, care and support workers and anyone in the front-line that delivers hands-on care directly to people.

It is the recognised minimum qualification advised by CQC and Skills for Care, and is equally suited for those who are new to care work as well as those who have been in the sector for many years. The qualification gives learners an essential portfolio of skills.

The variety of units available makes it equally well suited for carers working in a variety of settings including care homes, hospitals, schools or nurseries, or in the community.

It is suitable for all carers working with older people, children, families or people with dementia or learning disabilities. Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in health and social care, or they may choose to specialise in dementia care, or learning disabilities.

Entry requirements

To start an apprenticeship with Connect2Care you have to be aged 16 years or over and must be working in the health and social care sector for at least 30 hours a week. You also need to be a resident in England and not taking part in full-time education.

If you are not yet employed, Connect2Care advertises apprenticeship vacancies with employers on the National Apprenticeship website. This is a free service and there are many apprenticeship opportunities available. You can find and apply for Connect2Care's current Apprenticeship Vacancies here.
